@zoolegs 1. Told someone I was from Michigan and that the weather here was nice. 2. Called someone an *******. Both times I tried to lie and tell my grandma I didn't do it and both times AOL ratted me out with the receipts.

@Chemjobber I feel somewhat insane saying this but maybe same??!? My dad got AOL super early. I was either 8 or 9. I remember obsessively checking my email daily to never have them.

I know dark patterns and 'account/customer save' offers - I worked at AOL and I listened to reps working customers calling in to try cancel with one special offer after another until they caved; it's a good way to get a discount for something you actually want to keep getting!
