The internet should have stopped evolving in the AOL chat rooms era. We had perfection and we blew it all to hell. Yahoo doesn't even have answers anymore. Shaking my damn head.

  • wanyinbot Jiang Cheng (@wanyinbot) reported

Jin Ling. Come help me guess Wei Wuxian's AOL password

  • roomof13doors 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦 - 𝘖𝘹𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢 𝘚𝘶𝘵𝘳𝘢 (@roomof13doors) reported

@toomuchistrue Yes. See AOL Online, ICQ, Geocities, Netscape, MySpace, Vines, etc. Think about this for two seconds. It's completely possible. G7 governments maintained W93, W95, WMillennium, WXP, WVista, W7, W8, and none of those are around either. When a platform loses support, it dies.

  • JenOLoughlin 🌊 RIDINWITHBIDEN *DEMOCRAT* (@JenOLoughlin) reported

@SethAbramson Mastodon looks awful, like a cross between AOL and some children’s app.

  • kzorrofuego Strawberry Fox (@kzorrofuego) reported

Just because I'm resigned to this being "the way" doesn't make it less exhausting. It has been, for so long. From the late 00's mass exodus from LJ after the russkies bought it. To AOL-IM's eventual end, to the raft of god-awful alternatives (glaring at you, skype) 🤮

  • xxZenPiratexx David Lucas (@xxZenPiratexx) reported

@elonmusk The rest of the internet, as u said, sucks, it's corporate controlled AKA partially by infra guard. The original internet, Geocities, AOL homepages, Lycos clubs, web ring, search engines that actually indexed etc True freedom of it's use. Cloud is deep state at best.

  • CatteMikaela Mikaela Catte (@CatteMikaela) reported

  • Ledgewolf Scott Overlock (@Ledgewolf) reported

@farzyness you think twitter is bad? you wouldn't have made it in a 1990's AOL chatroom :)
