  Mad as hell bc I had to delete then re-login to my aol account on my phone (shut up, I know) and the notes in my notepad app I wrote from the end of June-present were not backed up So many single lines of lyrics that were never going to become anything, gone

  @FreddysUSA The code never comes. It’s been that way for days. Yes I’ve checked my spam folder too. Tried AOL mail and Yahoo mail both.

  @AOL is the worst internet provider and email service! That’s exactly why they are going out of business. They wont let me acquire an email that I have not used in years (which happens to be the same email for my IG). DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!

  In June 2000 a room of shareholders raised their hands and approved the worst deal in corporate history. The price tag was $120,000,000,000. When the deal was announced five months earlier it was worth about $165,000,000,000. Nobody stopped the vote. The currency was melting while they counted the hands, and the vote went through anyway. AOL was the buyer. A dial-up company with 23,000,000 subscribers paying monthly for modem access. Time Warner was the target. Cable systems, film studios, magazines, record labels, actual assets producing actual cash. The internet company bought the media empire with stock. Paper bought property. Steve Case knew what his paper was worth. Gerald Levin took it anyway. Watch the men on the steps afterwards. Nobody is arguing. Nobody in that footage looks like they just lost anything. Two years later the combined company wrote down about $99,000,000,000 in a single year. That number is larger than the annual output of most countries. By 2009 the two halves were separated again, and the pieces were worth a fraction of what they carried in. Every analyst covering the deal called it visionary. The vote took minutes. The unwind took nine years.

  once the aol screenshots of them being an emetophile hit the fandom all bets were off. now it's talking about puking every night, the other band members spitting **** up constantly, etc...you love to see it.

  The top 10 companies that crashed in 2000: Cisco, Microsoft, Intel, Lucent, JDS Uniphase, WorldCom, AOL Time Warner. While the internet and computers did become really big, the market was wrong about every one of these companies except Microsoft, and there was plenty of opportunity to buy it after the crash at a much lower price. (Intel and Cisco are still around as major companies too, but they were extremely overpriced then compared to what they are worth now. Terrible investments even if you had a very long time horizon.) Amazon was considered a minor company (and it crashed big time), Apple was considered a minor has-been company (and it crashed big time), Google wasn't a public company yet, and Facebook didn't even exist. So the point of this is to not believe the market hype about which companies are going to benefit in the long run from AI.

  @Sprocketguys @neoavatara The Internet peaked when it was a hodgepodge of isolated intranet service providers (AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy, etc) that had their own internal stuff you interacted with and you only used the www to go to a legit web site, not some social media garbage dump.

  @raphdelrio @UltimaWolf9 @esaagar You’re never going to believe this, but the data center serving netflix videos needs multitudes more power than the one that let you login to AOL 🤯
