Verizon should have never bought Yahoo and AOL, but it's good to see them shed those and refocus. AT&T should have never bought Tim Warner, but it's good to see them soon both that and DTV off. T-Mobilr should have never bought Layer3 TV. Etc.

  • tuba_man Chris 🌈🌟 (@tuba_man) reported from Wheat Ridge, Colorado

@AmyDentata It's the same reason why gaudy desktop PC lights are a mess of vendor lock-in, And why we've reinvented the bad old days of infinite cable bundles and of AOL channels (which is about the nicest way I can think to describe the deliberate interop friction between social media apps)

  • kittehv1876 Kat V (@kittehv1876) reported from Denver, Colorado

@ChrisJFuselier Never trust a Hotmail address, they are the new AOL. 🤣

  • gingertasticCO Danny Sacks (@gingertasticCO) reported from Westminster, Colorado

    My AOL-IM is down, wtf??

  • GatorNationCO Josh WFI in Denver (@GatorNationCO) reported from Denver, Colorado

@why_a_guy @cristela9 The land line bit had me cracking up. I remember the **** show that was AOL and land lines.

  • PeterKretzman Peter Kretzman (@PeterKretzman) reported

@estherschindler Or the emergency AOL diskette I carried with me just in case I could get nothing else to work in the hotel. This seems implausible to me now as I look back on it, but I’m positive it was in my travel bag as a standard item—and I hated AOL!

  • AllenHopson2 Allen M. Hopson (@AllenHopson2) reported

@tanzinavega Oh, the kids will never know the feeling of having to use memory cards to save data. Forget that autosave feature we all take for granted. And may the powers that be help you if you forgot to save to it. That, and the timeless AOL service. Or classic Solitaire and Minesweeper.

  • Sach_KS GuruSachin (@Sach_KS) reported

@SriSri @K_Oswal @ArtofLiving 30 years of AoL (or whatever that bull crap is) Yoga Vedanta & someone practicing all that still dies from a disease which is yet to claim a single life in kangladesh/napakistan Yoga trains one to smilingly digest cobra venom (NeelKanth) Something is seriously wrong somewhere

  • kate18158082 kate (@kate18158082) reported

@nohiraeth Princess Diana stepped down and was divorced. She never monitized her name. She didn’t cut deals with AOL or Microsoft .

  • mkefrizz Craig Frizzell (@mkefrizz) reported

@DrBrainNerd @LizWFab Lots of local internet service providers. I never had AOL; we always used a local place.

  • randychapman Randy Chapman (@randychapman) reported

@AlexHolmeset Great idea. Bury historic knowledge down alongside physical servers and AOL dial-up CDs.

  • knightvine ❄️ x - isle of misfit toys ❄️☮️🏒 (@knightvine) reported

i feel like i am watching #isles game on aol dial up service

  • playcritically SubAndrew Below Zero (@playcritically) reported

Also I once tried to get my computer internet accessible by installing AOL on it. I didn't know what a router or dial-up internet was, I thought computer programs were magic. That's not really a "random 90s story" it's just a "I was an idiot when I was 10" story.

  • JSto JessicaMae Stover ✘ Author of Astral Fall (scifi) (@JSto) reported

@CaseyNewton are we going to pretend that AOL Kids Only never existed and that no one has built a better kids’ space online since? I only have, like, 5000 things to say on this subject.

  • ValerieSonh Valerie K. Sonh 🧢🗽🍎 (@ValerieSonh) reported

    @ExcapeArtist @BigJacks I used AOL dial-up until 2012. It was awful. 😐
