Chris Edwards (@ChrisWithRobots) reportedBack in the 90's, the major consumer scams were call-in fortune tellers and psychics who would charge a few dollars per minute. And AOL subscriptions that AOL refused to cancel. Those were innocent times. Now it's crypto, AI-assisted impersonations, ransomware...

Madness832 (@Madness832) reported@JonErlichman Actually, the company was originally known as QLink, and only supported the Commodore 64. It changed to AOL, in the early 90s, after addin' PC and Mac support.

Turkey T (@The_Turkey_T) reportedTo be clear, I would never, EVER, DM anyone. Not on Twitter/X, not on Discord, hell, not even on AOL Instant Messenger. Even replying to people if they message me ties my nerves into knots. But when they do, no matter what the reason or situation, I appreciate it. So thank you.

Greg Pate (@GregPate12) reported@sentosumosaba @CantonNetwork When I see stuff like this, my limited capacity prompts me to worry if any of these new developments will affect XRP, Ripple, negatively. AOL or Netscape? VHS or BetaMax(an entire company shut out). Hmmm. I know I shouldn't worry. Things just haven't settled down yet and, they won't for some time. The winning bid hasn't come in yet. It's natural to hope your team comes out on top. I guess I don't appreciate the size of the pie. I just hope everyone gets a healthy slice.

Qiang Bai (@qiangthesuper) reportedAOL was the first time I realized that a business could systematically exploit human weakness and make money by misleading customers. At the time, I was still a student. Out of curiosity, I subscribed to AOL. In reality, I already had access to the internet through a PPP modem, so I didnβt need AOL at all. But they offered a βfirst month freeβ promotion, and during registration, I had to provide my bank account details. I completely forgot about it. I never used the service, since I continued using my own internet connection. A few months later, I accidentally discovered that I had been charged $9.95 every month. As a student, that was not a trivial amount. I contacted AOL customer service. They didnβt argue or explain β they immediately terminated the service. Which, to me, showed they knew exactly what they were doing β and that this was not an isolated case.
