  Shocking service from @curryspcworld today - waited in for 6.5hrs for a dishwasher that never turned up. Two different stories from the driver, both of which were crap. Now ordered with @AOL who will hopefully do a better job on Tuesday 👍🏻

  @BekoUK I bought a Beko VCS5125AR Upright Vacuum Cleaner in Red from AOL 27/2/21 and in the past week it has cut out after using it for 10mins and did not restart for 20mins. Not happy. I would like it swapped for a hoover that works competently for the use it was bought for!

  AOL have deleted more than half of the saved emails in my inbox and now I’ve lost the email containing the serial codes for Eleanor Forte AI, Synth V Studio Pro and Natsuki Karin AI. I’ve managed to send an email to Anicute but AHS want a support number (was in a deleted email…)

  i don't buy the "ai search replaces Google" thesis. the data says the opposite is happening. Cloudflare Radar, may 2026: every ai chatbot — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity — sends 0.29% of global search referrals. Google sends 87.63%. 301-to-1. Anthropic's ClaudeBot crawls 11,122 pages for every human visit it returns vs Google's 5:1. Alphabet Q1 2026 filing: Google search revenue $60.4B, +19% yoy, up from +17% in Q4. ai overviews hit 2.5B monthly users; ai mode crossed 1B. alphabet says ai overviews monetize at rates "similar to traditional search" (june 2026 investor presentation). the kill-google thesis is showing up as negative signal in the actual p&l. Perplexity — the consensus poster child — killed its entire ad business in feb (Financial Times, The Verge). ads generated $20K against $34M revenue. exec quote: "a user would just start doubting everything." a company that can't make advertising work cannot disrupt a $60B/quarter advertising business. the consensus pusher worth countering specifically — @sarahdingwang at a16z, who led Exa's $250M Series C at $2.2B in may. her line: "agents will search the web more than humans this year. soon orders of magnitudes more." historical analog — Netscape 1994-98. the next platform that would reduce windows to "a poorly debugged set of device drivers." 80% share, record ipo. microsoft bundled IE for free. netscape sold to AOL for scrap. the company that captured the value was the one everyone thought netscape would displace — Google, founded 1998 — the services layer above the commodity. counter-position: ai search isn't replacing Google.   @ArrioHicko33777 @PrinnyCherry @Kari445009 long ago I worked for AOL. in the smoker break area an argument broke out between signups and support. Support was saying signnups are a bigger part of the problem because they were adding users. signups was saying support was the problem because they were keeping ppl on dialup.

  Different decade, same math: half the S&P 500 is priced at levels that a dot-com CEO called proof of investor insanity while watching his company crater 90%. The rotation at the top: In early 2000, the ten most valuable S&P 500 companies read like a monument to permanent dominance: Microsoft, General Electric, Cisco, Walmart, ExxonMobil, Intel, Lucent, IBM, Citigroup, AOL. A generation later, only Microsoft remains. GE was carved into three separate companies. Lucent was absorbed by Nokia. AOL became the cautionary tale attached to the worst merger in corporate history. Cisco and Intel spent 25 years climbing back to their dot-com peaks. Citigroup, IBM, Walmart, and ExxonMobil still exist, but none crack the top ten. The new top ten is Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and the AI infrastructure complex. Investors in 2000 were also certain they were buying the future's permanent giants. The data says most of today's winners won't be in the top ten a generation from now either, and there is no mechanism by which you find out which ones survive in advance. The valuation problem: In 2002, after Sun Microsystems collapsed 90%, CEO Scott McNealy explained to investors exactly what a 10x sales multiple actually demands: 100% of revenues paid as dividends for ten consecutive years, with zero costs, zero R&D, zero taxes, and zero employees. He was describing the math of the price investors had paid for his stock as a form of collective psychosis. Today, 51% of the S&P 500 by market cap trades above 10x sales. Half the index. The AI narrative is functioning as the dot-com narrative functioned: a story compelling enough to make the math feel optional. The math has never been optional.

  @PBDsPodcast The crazy part is that he’s still too young to really remember what it was like. I’ll never forget AOL chatrooms and social media before the great meme war of 2016. Everything changed after that. The internet is so lame now.

  Jaafar would do stuff like get on AOL and chat with strangers/fans lol all of them did. and he'd get in trouble. that's what I meant by bad. they all had foamspring accounts too
