@EinCymru Yep it is true - can't get it on any Freeview service (might with Sky) - so annoying - have choice of North West or West Mids.

@jaxlfc_jj @YaTerrynorris70 It’s not restricted to the BBC. If you watch or record live TV on any channel - either through your TV or through a website - then you need a TV licence. This applies whether you receive Freesat, Freeview or a pay-TV service in your home, & whether or not you watch BBC channels.

As long it supplies services for free, subscriptions to others have to be kept affordable. Innovation & training are also important. How do you think Freeview came about? @MartinSLewis Alternatives to the TV licence were looked at a few years ago. I was told Freeview will shut down in a few years. How would we handle a COVID outbreak without a national broadcaster and only Internet/Cable subs? What happens to the stuff BBC runs under the hood?

@UKSpunkyMonkey @JustMark33 @GaryLineker Yes, that's because the BBC is non-excludable. Sky can turn your signal off very easily and do it all the time. How would the BBC stop you from listening to BBC Radio? Also most of the TV is on Freeview. I'm hearing lots of over-simplistic reasoning in this thread.

@nw_nicholas BBC 3 went online only, BBC2 is an overflow for BBC1 and BBC4 is an archive channel. I hardly ever turn the TV on as Freeview is mainly a catch-up service for ITV and Channel 4 with BBC repeats ad nauseum.

The only other thing I will say is that practically, it's also a tax on simply owning a tele. Because I can't just have a tv in my house and enjoy freeview and theoretically never watch the BBC, you still get charged. you can't opt out of the BBC and enjoy freeview
