@bethanjenkins Project Kangaroo became YouView. It wasn’t shut down because it was a ppv model - it was meant to be like an online Freeview. It was shut down because it was deemed unfair competition for private companies. Who are now all Americans.

@itvcalendar @ITV Wow! TV transmitters don't usually catch fire. The structure is metal, so it will be the equipment at the foot of the mast that's will be the problem. It will mean no Freeview for the area it serves.

@Claire_Pickard @sueashton3000 Many residents in Sunderland & along the Durham Coast also receive Freeview Channels from the Bilsdale transmitter. The fire is also likely to have knocked out about 30 relay stations, which "feed" on signals from Bilsdale. I wouldn't like to climb up the transmitter to fix it!

@f1redfive Hi Alex. Are all your Freeview channels off? I put Ch4 on 2.10pm to watch Countdown 🕛 & every channel No Signal ! so, tried switching TV off & on mains.. No Signal. Then got Freeview pocket TV out.. No Signal ! Luckily old Sky box in bedroom still shows free channels

@WendyM53 @Freeview Hi, Due to unforeseen circumstances the Bilsdale transmitter is currently not transmitting due to a large fire. The emergency services are onsite and once cleared the engineers will access the transmitter to resolve the issue. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

@FreeviewAdvice My sister is severely affected, she has absolutely no signal at all, not everyone has freeview play etc, can you not devert signel to other masts?

@Bob_Fischer Ah, is this why I've seen a few NE chums complaining of Freeview not working today? We nearly had a similar thing in 2018 when all of West Yorkshire and the countryside around Manchester was on fire, including Winter Hill, the main NW transmitter. During the World Cup too!

@thestrayferret Bad news cos Freeview is a much sharper picture than the dark dull picture thru SKY satelite! Also there is no TFM radio in my car but Radio York is available!

Over 3 hrs I've spent trying to figure out why the Freeview side of my BT box lost all the channels with no signal. Stripped wires removed plugs...checked other TVs ...only to finally find out the local transmitter is on 🔥.. not happy.....bedtime.....😠😠
