    I then spoke to a fault manager who also said the problem was my router. I told him that the fault was with the external BT Openreach wiring. I plugged in the crappy Huawei @TalkTalk router and lo and behold there was an external fault.

    He then pronounced that he had ‘improved’ the speed and left saying it would get better still in a couple of days. The problem was that there was no change - other than courtesy of @TalkTalk we no longer had working extension sockets.

    So two number changes later, we no longer use the landline much. We’ve now got no extension sockets despite not ever having a problem before. We’ve spent hours talking to @TalkTalk but there’s one big problem....

    I tried @TalkTalk’s ‘live chat’ to explain that their engineer had decimated our house wiring but I was then told the problem was my router. (Lesson to self -Do NOT use live chat)

    We waited in for the engineer. Surprisingly he turned up on time. He said that he was here to fix the ‘bridge tap’ which was all he did. @TalkTalk said there was a problem with our internal wiring.

    The problem is that you cannot trust @TalkTalk. They lost our data to a plague of Nigerian hackers who pestered us daily. Then they gave us a new telephone number which was from another customer whose data had been lost.

    If you have ever suffered a Broadband fault you will have some idea of the hell that is @TalkTalk customer service. A thread on how not to do things.

    .@TalkTalk then refused to send an engineer out to fix the damage they had done. They are insisting on me sending another crappy router as apparently they cannot test the line (despite saying at the beginning of all this that their tests had shown a problem with our wiring.)

    It started with @TalkTalk trying to be helpful. Their “tests” had detected a fault with our line - so the email said - and they would send an engineer free of charge to fix it.

    Now I use my own router rather than the dodgy Chinese one supplied by @TalkTalk. I was also fairly confident that there was no problem with our internal wiring but the ‘engineer’ proceeded to cut the wires to all our internal sockets.

    @RunninOnEmptee @virginmedia They are useless. My dad has been with Virgin and now with Sky. Ive been with TalkTalk and Plusnet myself. Plusnet are the best imo for service.

    @TalkTalk Still a solid red light. Been like this since before 7am GMT. All hardware is fine. Others have reported similar issues on this and other providers.

    @TalkTalk Morning looking forward to my contract ending on the 13th. However you’ll be taking payment in advance for the month ahead will the difference be refunded back to bank account or shall I cancel ddand then pay you for the days broadband that I’d have? New fibre goes live on 15th?

    @TalkTalk There is a flashing orange light on the front of my router. As was explained nearly two days ago, the issue appears to be beyond the house and so therefore I would like to be told what the situation is and what the estimated repair time might be, please.
