@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK We had the same with TalkTalk from my mum's house after she passed away. They racked up £600 to be owed to them, after we told them she'd passed away. Eventually spoke to someone with a heart and got it cancelled. We'll never use Talk Talk for anything now.

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK I'm sorry you are having this problem. Shoutout to GiffGaff, the best mobile telephone service with a very responsive user community and workable interface. My late mother fortunately transferred from one to the other before she died.

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK @ScottishPower have been just as bad. Been trying to cancel an account for nearly a year, calls and online chat. Just been sent a bill with a year's worth bills in the same envelope for an executor account we didn't know existed.

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK @VodafoneUK did exactly the same with me when I switched broadband provider. I wonder just how much money they make from people who don't keep an eye on their direct debits? I'll never go back to them.

@VodafoneUK @GeorgeMonbiot What's extraordinary about this reply is it confirms not only that inappropriate, inhuman responses are a matter of policy on the part of Vodaphone customer services, but that such responses are the absolute best the company can do.

@TrudieMaxim @GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK I did exactly the same thing with BT about a decade ago (although via email rather than phone) and you wouldn't believe how quickly my issue was resolved once his assistant got involved. Up until that point I couldn't get a sensible response from anyone.
