  @Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

  @teleject @meyerweb It kinda does though... With MSN Explorer (yes that was a thing in 2001, competing with AOL) we enabled "toast notifications" and the name was because "the little thing popped like the toast on the screensavers." Real toast never does that. It sits there. It sometimes Burns.

  @1womanworkforce If he’s working from the aol ap I would delete it and reload. We had a problem with aol a while ago. The old Ap wasn’t working. Change the password just in case on your web version.

  Scott Hardy was on the internet before the web existed. He joined AOL in 1995 in tech support and rode it from 100,000 subscribers to over 30 million, working his way up to IT Operations Manager running networks for Arizona. Then the dot-com bubble burst and he was loading cargo at Delta for fifteen dollars an hour. He rebuilt through Sprint Nextel, eTelecare, and Limelight Networks, and in 2008, in the middle of a financial crisis, he founded Top Class Actions on one brutal statistic: roughly 95 percent of consumer class action settlements go unclaimed. TCA became the world's most popular site for class action website. Then he went full stack. When Arizona became the first state to allow non-lawyer ownership of law firms, Scott, a non-lawyer, co-founded LegaFi Law in 2022 to represent the plaintiffs his site was already finding. In 2024 he launched Trimaxian, a litigation funding syndicate that lets accredited investors and family offices back class actions.

  Wow surprisingly tone deaf post from an @openai top executive. Feels like AOL or Compuserve arguing about how dangerous and bad for innovation an open internet would be. Permissionless innovation. That’s what open weight models offer.

  How do all these people have 10s of thousands of "followers"? People that don't necessarily post anything new or just re-posts of other peoples' thoughts & work. I don't get it. I've been a member for a while now (w/ THIS acct - my orig was cancelled by Twitter during COVID for telling the factual scientific truth about masks based on my years in Bio-Nanotechnology). Is it strictly from those "Follow" train lists? I learned early on to stay away from those - I check out EVERYBODY I ever follow first & personally (not necessarily relying upon Grok's "Profile Summary", although those may get me interested to take a gander). I try to engage those who engage with me and avoid silly flame-wars. I don't post to GET followers, I generally post current stream-of-consciousness thoughts, what's on my mind at that moment & not really organizing them into proper English "articles". Plus I'm not really good at pithy comments - I speak from my heart & soul and EXPLAIN myself & my reasoning for coming to different conclusions. And I typically don't engage in irrational, emotional hyperbole & name-calling. I truly want to know what others think and LEARN (you're never too old to learn!). For DECADES on BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems - pre-graphical internet days, modem-connected social systems for discussion, research & debates), the Usenets (newsgroups, pre-graphical/HTTP/HTML internet days when time on the internet was purchased through 3rd party vendors like CompuServe by the hour - 70s & 80s, pre-AOL (which is slightly pre-HTTP/HTML/Mozilla-Netscape graphical internet revolution) - where everything was command-line driven in ASCII, EBCDIC, ISO set or ATASCII or the like). Am I just too old, boring, long-winded, obnoxious, opinionated or what? I know its annoying with me posting about my health, but I've gotta vent SOMEWHERE and NO ONE on X knows me personally. Not that it matters so much now, I'm heading down the stretch-run to Home plate, but even paying for Elon's blue-checkmark, I don't get many hits/views or responses/engagement, it is pretty comparable to my "free" account that I use solely for NFL stuff where I have 1 whole "follower", which is probably one of those online ho-bags. It's not that I'm looking to "earn" from X and I'll NEVER post things just for click-bait value. I'm just really curious how these other accounts accrue so many followers for literally not doing much,

  Trust me when I say I’ve been into conspiracies since YouTube first came out. I’ve had a computer since I was six years old, back in the AOL dial-up days. Looking back, it all feels like it was by design. It explains why I was such a little ****. It explains the betrayals. It explains everything I went through. I was early to all of it. Like, really ******* early. Everything you’re seeing now is nothing new to me. It might be new to you after 2020, but I was already deep in this **** years before that. That’s how it has always been for me. And the dumb ***** who knew me in real life and still follow me would vouch for that. They know I’m not gassing this **** up. I’d actually love for them to speak on it because they saw how early I was to all of this. They won’t admit it, but I know they stalk my profile. And when I drop the numbers, this is not me being vain or thinking I’m better than anyone. I’m explaining why I’ve always felt like such an old ******* soul. I was raised around people who never understood me, and I only fully realised that around 2020.   People prefer to pay flat rates than metered. In today's age, you can give an agent monthly budget (flat rate) and not have to worry about how many micropayments it makes for products/services. Excerpt from "Case Against Micropayments": "What was the biggest complaint of AOL users? Not the widely mocked and irritating blue bar that appeared when members downloaded information.
