@reece_dinsdale The other two are "Welcome to AOL: you're connected!" and "Goodbye...th-that's it." Damn I need to put these on my new laptop!

@1womanworkforce If he’s working from the aol ap I would delete it and reload. We had a problem with aol a while ago. The old Ap wasn’t working. Change the password just in case on your web version.

  • dougmortonagain
Doug (@dougmortonagain) reported from Ealing, England

The first PlayStation came out, and Macs transitioned to Power PC. AOL is launched. Amazon was founded. Microsoft announces it will no longer sell or support the MS-DOS operating system separately from Microsoft Windows

@Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

@teleject @meyerweb It kinda does though... With MSN Explorer (yes that was a thing in 2001, competing with AOL) we enabled "toast notifications" and the name was because "the little thing popped like the toast on the screensavers." Real toast never does that. It sits there. It sometimes Burns.

@JackReganUK Even older than you: never had a MySpace account or zn AOL email address

@Kalshi_Crypto Most AI companies won’t get the AOL style graceful exit Netscape did. They’ll just… fade & fail.

This is wild af but when our internet was down as a teen I had a collection of these bad bois to use. Idk how it worked and my mom eventually told me she had to call so many times to cancel AOL

  • tonjiamallory
    Tonjia (@tonjiamallory) reported

@Prolotario1 Back in the day, we paid for email. AOL was 9.99 a month. I decided to switch to free Yahoo. Called AOL to cancel. They offered me 3 free months. I said ok, then cancelled. They then sent me a paper bill for the 3 months.

    Chris Edwards (@ChrisWithRobots) reported

Back in the 90's, the major consumer scams were call-in fortune tellers and psychics who would charge a few dollars per minute. And AOL subscriptions that AOL refused to cancel. Those were innocent times. Now it's crypto, AI-assisted impersonations, ransomware...

    we_are_doomed!!! (@wearedoomed4) reported

@RealBookerScott Never had MySpace or AOL. Earthlink I think it was called. Still use very first Hotmail address though

  • SWT_Channel
Star Wars Timeline (Ben) 🇷🇺🇺🇸 (@SWT_Channel) reported

@MarcFinkPart7 @KevinLamb74 Prequels were on everyone's lips, even casuals who aren't movie nerds at all. Everyone was involved. All the biggest fan site forums, AOL chat rooms, heck even Newgrounds site all debated about it. In big cities like NYC you'd never hear the end of pro/against conversations at comic shops, B&N book stores, libraries. I was finishing up HS going on to college in 2001 and everyone at my campus at Lehman College talked about it.

@jwtruman1115 @OldWorldBlues52 @TABYTCHI I haven’t seen a “keep talking **** and get hit” drunk teenage retard poster like you since like probably back in the AOL days like 2003 this is ******* wild you are a gift dude

@DrBerryPierre Internet must be moving slow… you still have aol ?

  • pypolk

@AIandDesign The compute costs will inevitably come down, and it will get cheaper. AI video access of today, looks like AOL by the hour, of the 90s, and now internet access is unlimited.
