"Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

With MSN Explorer (yes that was a thing in 2001, competing with AOL) we enabled "toast notifications" and the name was because "the little thing popped like the toast on the screensavers." Real toast never does that. It sits there. It sometimes Burns.

tmnxeq (@tmnxeq) reported@0xljki obviously there was demand for bandwidth in '99, most people or businesses had none (this is kinda binary and you had to lay pipes throughout the whole country) operationally, this was a high margin business - you lay the pipe once (expensive capex) & but then can AOL CDs to every households, with virtually no marginal cost for addtl customer. "compute buyers have high margins" - brother what have you been smoking. xAI (admittedly now a compute seller) is losing gazillions - maybe that's why they went from buying/producing compute to selling. OAI/ANT have no published financials but spoiler, they are losing billions per year 1/2

Rhiyddun (@rhiyddun) reported@qaggnews @ColonelTowner @MarkEDeschaine True, back then the community was a lot smaller and better connected in a way, it was just us computer geeks, after all, just getting connected to the internet was difficult until Aol and Bix. I helped bring cable modems and digital set top boxes to the public but that wasn't until mid 90s. Before then, a fast connection was a 44.1Mb T3 at work, or a blazing 128kb from home, you could with some trouble get a T1... A fast CPU ran faster than 2MHz... (not GHz) The fastest link, mid 80s the Boston globe could get going from one side of town to the other was a T2 microwave link, 6Mb, so until Bill Gates started selling pc's to anyone, it was a close and honest community, not without the odd ones, but anti social was the 'uunet' red line I guess. How long did the gets() vulnerability remain unexploited? Years. People didn't break into other systems as a usual thing. That was 40 years ago though and things just aren't the same. The Arduino crowd strikes me as having some of the hobbyist sort of enthusiasm you'd see back then.

The techniques compromise major platforms including Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Fastmail, Proton Mail, Yahoo Mail, and AOL Mail. One Outlook and Firefox attack chain spoofs a Microsoft sign-in screen to capture typed passwords in real-time. A Yahoo and AOL vulnerability allows attackers to reconstruct a 12-character Medium login token to hijack accounts. The research remains strictly proof-of-concept with no active malicious exploitation reported as of August 8. Security teams can't keep relying on sanitizers to block CSS when browsers and AI assistants inherently trust the interface context.
