  Utterly useless service from AOL/Yahoo/TalkTalk yet again following my complaint reference the breakdown/failure of their systems. So irritating when you pay for a service and don't get it. I was told by a rep ref. AOL: "it's a very old platform.." as if that was an excuse. @AOL

  When it first arrived — and I made a blog there within the first two months of its public existence — @tumblr was the near perfect blogging platform. Then AOL destroyed it. Now it’s a horrible jail where I can’t get rid of this dumb screen. Thanks @automatic.

  I was told by a rep ref. AOL: "it's a very old platform.." as if that was an excuse. If it doesn't work, they shouldn't take my money. @TalkTalk is a useless outfit too. I was called for months by fake Indian call centres after their data hack. My home internet sucks. @AOL @Ofcom

  One of the most underrated skill in business: writing a good email. 350+ billion emails are sent every day. Nobody talks about email etiquette. The people who are good at it shine. The people who aren't have a disadvantage and don't even know it. Here's how to fix it: Keep it short. No email should ever be over 150 words. Paragraphs should never be more than 4 lines. When you write an important email, spend just as much time cutting it down as you spent writing it. Go line by line. Ask: is this sentence absolutely necessary? Can I combine these two into one? Ditch the Comcast, AOL, and Hotmail addresses. Set up a professional email on your own domain using Google Workspace. Don't put "CEO" in your signature if you're a startup with no employees. I know you founded the company. Put "owner" or "founder." When I see "CEO" from a company I know is brand new, I roll my eyes. Never criticize anyone in a reply-all. If people are CC'd, it means they want to be kept in the loop, so reply all to keep them there. And remember: email is permanent. Don't put anything in writing you wouldn't want surfacing years later. Small thing. Massive advantage if you're one of the few who actually does it right.

  @oelma__ Nope. Not really. I remember when yahoo and msn came along. I had AOL at 2.0. (Can't remember the name of the service before them, but it only lasted 2 hours and cost too much to keep going.)

  @pe_remek Flat-rate dial-up ran on the same circuit-switched lines as per-minute dial-up. AOL sold $19.95 unlimited in 1996 with the phone network unchanged. If circuit switching forced per-minute billing, that plan could not have existed. It did, and millions bought it. So the meter was a pricing choice, not a property of the wire. It came off dial-up by decision, and Anthropic just announced the same move for its best model: folding it back into a flat subscription.
