@neilperkin You'd think they could find a fix. This used to happen with all AOL accounts showing up as 'Virginia' 20 years ago!

  • dougmortonagain

The first PlayStation came out, and Macs transitioned to Power PC. AOL is launched. Amazon was founded. Microsoft announces it will no longer sell or support the MS-DOS operating system separately from Microsoft Windows

@Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

Lorraine King (@lorrainemking) reported from Brentford, England

@NW6Rd You've just reminded me my contract is up with my absolutely appalling @SkyUK broadband. It's so slow it's like AOL dial-up

@KwakuMMNT 112 by default. Jagged Edge were broadcasting to us using 2001 AOL dial up. Horrible signal.

When I started Curse in 2004, I was just couch surfing at friends’ houses. I didn’t know how to code, and I had no money. I found two engineers online in IRC chat rooms (pre-Discord), and on MSN/AOL Messenger. When things started working, moving to SF was the best decision. My ambitions 10x’d, I found an incredible peer network, and access to capital became much easier. You don’t need to be in SF to start, but it makes everything easier if you can be here. A lot of people can’t afford it or don’t have visas, that’s why we expanded our programs online for the first time with Canopy. I do want you to move to SF, but you can absolutely do it once you already have something going. Nothing is stopping you from building online, it’s actually easier than ever, especially with Twitter.

@5knotlife @hyp36rmax @OrevaZSN Nice try? ************, almost no regular family had internet in their homes until the mid-90s with AOL, Prodigy, and CompuServe. No one gives a **** what you were doing in a lab, moron.

@stripchat Your site buffers a lot like AOL. It's a very terrible site.

@WendyRogersAZ This is like hearing the old AOL dial up connection waiting for internet….that never gets here. The deep state is protecting the deep state. I will believe justice is coming when we start seeing actual high level arrests.

@HDRetrovision My last chat on AOL was with you. It was the last day before they shut it down. lol Was that 9 years ago? 💀💀

@cdrsalamander I had an account on AOL in 92 plus my .edu email accessible from a terminal/command line interface (windows machines showed up the next year). Briefly had Compuserve (gave me a discount on a laptop), but had Gmail by 2005, never looked back.
