@anildash I can remember Microsoft trying to launch their own network to compete with the internet or so it seemed, I joined got an account then had to wait about an hour, via dialup, to cancel it, back to AOL it was for me.

@pmarca We should help tech. Is there a go fund me? I’m worried PayPal might block contributions though. Facebook already reported my ‘Help Tech’ to the FBI and Google made it invisible in search query results. MySpace and AOL have seemed to ignore it while compuserve is busy signal.

@MosquitoCapital @iFred I made a program for AOL (back maybe in 1998?) that exploited AOL dial-up handshake to think you were logged out but still allowed you to use the service. We even had a name for it, "ghosting". Not the same, but I've definitely seen similar "logged-out but not really" behavior.

@CathieDWood @ARKInvest Have you ever dealt with AI powered customer service? It is a greatest disaster. It lies and keeps repeating the same lies. Far worst than the numan customer service of AOL dealing with cancelation of accounts.

@arnold_schroder I don't understand the issue with Mastodon (although I am technical). It feels like (dating myself a bit here) complaining that people use email instead of AOL.

@monsterhunter45 To be honest it wasn’t a very original comeback. I’ve seen more creative ones in 90s AOL chat rooms. The guy being an idiot and piling on is what was funny.
