  Can safely say that @AOL @aolmail @AOLSupportHelp have proved to have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. No way of contacting other than email, no acknowledgement that Mail account can’t be accessed, no way of resetting password. No help at all. Disgusting.

  Shocking service from @curryspcworld today - waited in for 6.5hrs for a dishwasher that never turned up. Two different stories from the driver, both of which were crap. Now ordered with @AOL who will hopefully do a better job on Tuesday 👍🏻

  AOL have deleted more than half of the saved emails in my inbox and now I’ve lost the email containing the serial codes for Eleanor Forte AI, Synth V Studio Pro and Natsuki Karin AI. I’ve managed to send an email to Anicute but AHS want a support number (was in a deleted email…)

  @BekoUK I bought a Beko VCS5125AR Upright Vacuum Cleaner in Red from AOL 27/2/21 and in the past week it has cut out after using it for 10mins and did not restart for 20mins. Not happy. I would like it swapped for a hoover that works competently for the use it was bought for!

  We have been doing things on the internet since back when the internet first became a thing. We operated telnet systems for several years out of our Spare bedroom. Long before AOL even. It takes a special type of fool to think someone in Africa is going to help us grow.

  @AyakaMods time to start searching for a discord alternative, its pretty bad, infested with crap people anyway not the first time either... before discord we had messenger, skype, aol, many others, i really hope a good alternative with no woke bs will arise and overtake dc.

  @DustyRondeau @PJB170 @WeWatchedAMovie I'm sorry but do you really think parents pimping out their kids is best addressed by going after people other than the parents. Also, that wasn't what these stings were. There are statistics on molestation. 1 in 5 children are propositioned on the internet. It happened to me regularly in the old AOL days. (AOL did nothing to crack down on it initially) However, that is not who molested me. The number of kids molested by a stranger online is so small it isn't even statistically significant. Because I'm a survivor, I've talked to other survivors a lot in different groups and literally have never met anybody who was molested by a stranger.

  A programmer built a database because software on a US Navy destroyer could not afford to lose its connection. Today that tiny database sits inside every iPhone, Android phone, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, and most people have never heard his name. His name is D. Richard Hipp. The database is SQLite. In 2000, Hipp was helping build software for the USS Oscar Austin, a guided-missile destroyer. The program helped sailors respond when the ship was damaged. If a pipe burst, it could find the valves sailors needed to close, the other valves they needed to open, and exactly where each one was located. During a real attack, this could mean smoke, flooding, broken pipes, and people trying to keep the ship alive. All that information was stored inside an Informix database. When the database server worked, everything was fine. But sometimes the server went down. Sailors would open the damage-control program and get a message saying it could not connect to the database. Hipp’s team did not control the server. They still got blamed because their software showed the error. Hipp started asking a simple question: Why did the program need a database server at all? It only needed to read information from the ship’s computer. Why could it not pull that data directly from the disk? Then government funding paused, leaving Hipp without contract work for a few months. So he built the database himself. SQLite had no separate server to connect to. No administrator had to keep it running. The entire database could live inside one file, and the application could read that file directly. If the computer was working, the database was working. The Navy kept Informix as its official system, but Hipp’s team began using SQLite for development and testing. Then Hipp released it on the internet. Someone managed to run a full SQL database on a Palm Pilot. Motorola called and paid him to improve it for a new phone operating system. AOL wanted it because it needed a database small enough to fit on its installation CDs. Then Mozilla, Symbian, Adobe, Google, and countless other companies followed. When Android began shipping SQLite on millions of phones, users found bugs Hipp had never seen before. So he spent about a year working 60-hour weeks to bring it up to aviation-style testing standards. Today SQLite estimates that more than one trillion active databases may exist across the world. They store browser history, messages, settings, contacts, app data, and countless other pieces of our digital lives. The database created because a warship could not trust a server became the database billions of devices trust when no server exists.
