@fulghamstan (I used text-only internet on a 286 DOS computer until I was 18 or so, but we had a mac that could run AOL on a 2400 modem from 1995-1999, yes I was poor, but I got to use AOL in its most basic form!)

Verizon sold AOL and Yahoo to Apollo Global today for $5 billion...less than half what it originally paid for the two media companies But that is far from the worst acquisition ever Here are 10 of the biggest M&A flops of all time

I lost money on my AOL investment when Steve Case proved to be an idiot running a company. When Verizon bought it, I assume it was only a matter of time before they would dump it at far less than they paid. Maybe Verizon should buy MySpace or Circuit City......

A lot of news today; - Yahoo! and AOL have been sold by Verizon for just $5 billion - Discord is being worked on for PlayStation (where is Nintendo Switch support?) - Bill Gates and his wife Melinda are divorcing after 27 years Quite a lot happening!

@jeremyjarrell If we include AOL-Time Warner, there’s a good argument AOL has been involved in three of the worst M&A plays in the history of free enterprise.

like, AOL bought The Sierra Network / ImagiNation Network and shut it down. Someone should sell that to me!

$VZ is selling Yahoo and AOL for $5B. Verizon spent about $9 billion buying AOL and Yahoo over two years starting in 2015, hoping to jump-start a digital media business that would compete with Google and Facebook. This was the second worst AOL merger in history. 🥸

@jeffjarvis @pbeyssac Orange and Apple comparison. AOL & Yahoo market cap in 1999 included engineering & Infrastructure. Sounds like the 5B deal covers media assets only. I don't know the details, but, in that deal, Verizon might keep all datacenters and network point of presences from Yahoo Inc.
