@BitcoinMagazine The costs to KYC someone back then were exorbitant. It would have put most ISPs out of business sans “walled garden” AOL and we would not have seen the massive world changing innovation and subsequent rush of users to venture online. Poor regulation can cripple an industry.

@_rey_j Similar background, tho I think the beginning of my path into infosec started with disabling the McAfee parental block without causing the whole program to reboot + reverting AOL Dialer to old versions that would cache my mom's credentials incorrectly so I could login whenever 😭

Mom's PC crashed last Tuesday due 2 memory hogging @AOL's desktop software taking all 6 Gb's of RAM. @Windows wouldn't start back up. Kept giving me BSOD w/ "Bad System Configuration Info" stop code. All of which meant 24 hrs 4 me reinstalling OS & re-applying updates back 2 it
