Gerry Carpenter (@GerryCarpenter3) reported from Sunderland, England@Claire_Pickard @sueashton3000 Many residents in Sunderland & along the Durham Coast also receive Freeview Channels from the Bilsdale transmitter. The fire is also likely to have knocked out about 30 relay stations, which "feed" on signals from Bilsdale. I wouldn't like to climb up the transmitter to fix it!

Just as you can have Freeview TV, standard channels, most in standard definition but functional, or you can pay more for Netflix/Amazon/etc, Sky or BT with movies and sport in HD. Same principle applies.

Freeview channel 7 & 8 That's Local channels are not affected by this. All That's channels on Freeview will be removed from the EPG without notice. Tom (@TomCushnie) reported@x20mjs @AvonandsomerRob The World Cup feed is full range HDR and because our infrastructure is so far behind technlogy they crush the colours into a limited range to fit into Freeview. Red and yellows look really bad with this. Although it looks like BBC are handling the picture better

AAC was chosen for Freeview HD because Dolby had no equivalent receiver-mix audio desc'n support in 2009ish when the platform was standardised.
