@Fern_McGovern @SIofting @jckhth Nope. You can pay for a better service. Just as you can have Freeview TV, standard channels, most in standard definition but functional, or you can pay more for Netflix/Amazon/etc, Sky or BT with movies and sport in HD. Same principle applies.

  • AddingRandomWit
Adam Widdrington (@AddingRandomWit) reported from Newcastle upon Tyne, England

@bigpapablu @itvfootball I don’t have a sky or freeview box! I stream everything and have very good internet so it’s never an issue haha

Christine Scott (@Christi34653250) reported from Longbenton, England

@ITVX I wish I could or that Freeview took on this network a lot of us on pensions can't afford satalite or cable

  • GerryCarpenter3
Gerry Carpenter (@GerryCarpenter3) reported from Sunderland, England

@Claire_Pickard @sueashton3000 Many residents in Sunderland & along the Durham Coast also receive Freeview Channels from the Bilsdale transmitter. The fire is also likely to have knocked out about 30 relay stations, which "feed" on signals from Bilsdale. I wouldn't like to climb up the transmitter to fix it!

  • aquablu
Nicola (@aquablu) reported from Whitley Bay, England

If we're in lock down for another 3 weeks, I really feel the #sonyChristmasChannel should be put back on #freeview...Will keep people in the house ( okay, it'll easily keep me in the house🎅🤶🌲

@BigNGandBertie @sleafordmods I bought a Firestick for around £25. All the Freeview channels are available without Prime. The ITV app is incredibly slow and glitchy through my set top box/DVR, but works well on the Firestick.

  • PopeyeFreeview
    Popeye (@PopeyeFreeview) reported

It looks like QVC shopping channel is in financial in trouble? It's QVC made life hard for Freeview from beginning for refusing having shopping channels in one place. If QVC goes bust Freeview will be celebrating and get back channel 16?

  • RandomNoobYT
    Random Noob (TeK✨) (@RandomNoobYT) reported

@KarenGr58411658 @DailyMail All paid for with the licence fee, the government does not fund TV transmission infrastructure, this is controlled and operated by the BBC. No BBC, No transmission network, no Freeview. This is why you have to pay the licence for all live TV.

  • LeVoyeur72
    Voyeur (@LeVoyeur72) reported

@the_saffman @TheDoctorMagic @AlanJLSmith Not any more. However, BBC World Service is available in the UK on Freeview, so it's not as if you're paying for something you can't listen to, unlike when it was funded through taxation. Plus cable and satellite operators abroad also pay to carry it.

  • VoteFodder
    Voting Fodder (@VoteFodder) reported

@JohnSimpsonNews @jjarichardson The BBC applies for grants to help fund its research into broadcasting technology that has contributed to developments such as Freeview and DAB digital radio. In 2017-18 it received a grant, external from the EU of €1,282,331 (£1,145,572).

  • Doub1eHelix
    Paul_M_© (@Doub1eHelix) reported

@jamzefish @BBCNews Ok, I get that you're talking about unencrypted satellite signals, but these can be controlled. Everyone will have to login to iPlayer for BBC content with some programs requiring a paid subscription. Freeview channels should remain viewable without need for a TV licence.

  • MeadowAFCW
    Leigh Rumbelow (@MeadowAFCW) reported

@itvfootball TV constantly stuttering. Is it my Freeview TV or the signal? I may have to fire up the laptop.

  • 2hrTV
    CharlesWynfordLodge (@2hrTV) reported

@BENEFITS_NEWS I don't understand what switching off Freeview does, except I assume forces people to pay for everything? We have an Amazon Fredrick thing but the channels are apps. It's crap half the TV channels you can't even get on it. Freeview is better.

  • Tom_Amos
    Tom Amos (@Tom_Amos) reported

@langerz10 @connor_naismith I’ll be honest I typed that whilst chopping some salad and I don’t think I even know what I meant by **** all happened. I think my main point is Crewe fans have rarely contributed to radio Stoke when they’ve been on other frequencies. Why is freeview so bad?

  • TonyChalcroft
    Tony Chalcroft (@TonyChalcroft) reported

@BladeoftheS I do support the BBC and agree it needs an alternative method of funding. When Freeview is turned off a mix of subscription for drama and entertainment shows and funding from general taxation for children’s, educational and current affairs programmes would seem sensible.
