not. The services aren't even comparable. The BBC provides content across terrestrial TV, radio, the internet, iPlayer, and BBC Studios create programmes for other media companies too. In addition to that they maintain the Freeview network, which is almost certainly... [cont]

...it hasn't helped. Our transmitter is Bilsdale (where there has previously been a fire) but all freeview support we go on says we should be receiving 140 channels. Any ideas? #freeview #BBC1

@MattWWoolwich The problem is that the licence fee enables us to watch TV via Freeview. A reasonable model might be to include all that in general taxation. That way it would be funded fairly instead of the current unfair flat rate. Won't happen under the Tories though.

@d0hertyry4n @wilsonfromnorth @NadineDorries The point is that these are educational resources that are free to schools and colleges, OFSTED approved and inline with the National curriculum. The transmitters carry all channels. Freeview is how the elderly and poor access TV.

Paul Carmichael (@PCarmichaelVO) reported
@d0hertyry4n @wilsonfromnorth @NadineDorries What’s that got to do with educational resources every school/college use, maintaining Freeview transmitters so the elderly/poor have access to TV, having programming that is made for the disabled community? These things aren’t made by anyone else because they’re not profitable.

Phil T. (@philthiselton) reported
"Making the BBC a paid-for subscription service similar to Netflix is difficult due to the widespread popularity of broadcast radio and Freeview television services, which cannot be put behind a paywall." Er, they absolutely can and I hope they are!

David Keats (@davidkeatsuk) reported
@Marc_Burrows @scottygb I mean, yes, but their thinking isn’t having the BBC on freeview. They want a new way to pay for the BBC. So if the BBC’s ends up paying for its freeview space as it was no longer a public broadcaster - the BBC might commercially decide to no longer be a service for all.Disaster

@PaulM30033923 @Radioheady2021 @NadineDorries Guess you don’t watch a single BBC televison show, radio programme, or BBC funded film or read any BBC website or make use of the Freeview transmitter network?

Richard Scott (@Insurance_Rich) reported
@MrTrevMcCarthy @DaveHogg2 @LeeJBBC I don't need the BBC if I break my leg. We generally all go to school - some pay twice if they go private. Freeview exists. How on Earth can you comment about an affordable service - how many other countries force payment to turn on your TV?

I'd feel a lot more positive about the @BBC if it sorted out its @Freeview signal here so that it doesn't become unwatchable when it gets a bit hot. And no @FreeviewAdvice it's not about retuning sets, it's about transmitting on part of the band the transmitter is optimised for.
