On both occasions, when the phone started ringing it was cut off. How does she get to talk to customer service this week?

They've confirmed the claim but appear to be deliberately dragging it out in order to slow down claims. Presumably Nationwide has asked them to.

The solution is to move to a bank that actually cares about customers, which I’ll be doing first thing tomorrow. @StarlingBank & @monzo apps both work fine. Regards, Mike

Reverting back to standard isn’t so easy without wiping the phone and reinstalling, and I’ve never had any beta issues before so it’s actually a bit poor. The website doesn’t show pending transactions like the app.
