  @benjedwards school library had a dial-up modem (probably 9600 baud) to ISP through school district. At home was local ISP as AOL/Compuserve/etc. never had local numbers for me.

  @aolmail A family member has received the most appalling customer service from #aol. Utterly shocking. All she wants to do is reset the password as she’s been locked out & the response was effectively, go away and set up another account. She has replied, but I’m not happy.

  One of the biggest problems with old tech like @AOL is that they starved their engineers of creativity. too much legal reviews. never ending bureaucracy. now a lot of those engineers are laid off and entering a world that's changed dramatically.

  How do all these people have 10s of thousands of "followers"? People that don't necessarily post anything new or just re-posts of other peoples' thoughts & work. I don't get it. I've been a member for a while now (w/ THIS acct - my orig was cancelled by Twitter during COVID for telling the factual scientific truth about masks based on my years in Bio-Nanotechnology). Is it strictly from those "Follow" train lists? I learned early on to stay away from those - I check out EVERYBODY I ever follow first & personally (not necessarily relying upon Grok's "Profile Summary", although those may get me interested to take a gander). I try to engage those who engage with me and avoid silly flame-wars. I don't post to GET followers, I generally post current stream-of-consciousness thoughts, what's on my mind at that moment & not really organizing them into proper English "articles". Plus I'm not really good at pithy comments - I speak from my heart & soul and EXPLAIN myself & my reasoning for coming to different conclusions. And I typically don't engage in irrational, emotional hyperbole & name-calling. I truly want to know what others think and LEARN (you're never too old to learn!). For DECADES on BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems - pre-graphical internet days, modem-connected social systems for discussion, research & debates), the Usenets (newsgroups, pre-graphical/HTTP/HTML internet days when time on the internet was purchased through 3rd party vendors like CompuServe by the hour - 70s & 80s, pre-AOL (which is slightly pre-HTTP/HTML/Mozilla-Netscape graphical internet revolution) - where everything was command-line driven in ASCII, EBCDIC, ISO set or ATASCII or the like). Am I just too old, boring, long-winded, obnoxious, opinionated or what? I know its annoying with me posting about my health, but I've gotta vent SOMEWHERE and NO ONE on X knows me personally. Not that it matters so much now, I'm heading down the stretch-run to Home plate, but even paying for Elon's blue-checkmark, I don't get many hits/views or responses/engagement, it is pretty comparable to my "free" account that I use solely for sports-related stuff where I have 1 whole "follower", which is probably one of those online ho-bags. It's not that I'm looking to "earn" from X and I'll NEVER post things just for click-bait value. I'm just really curious how these other accounts accrue so many followers for literally not doing much,

  Earlier, AOL tried to give me a fake message, i.e., "this email has been deactivated due to inactivity." It wasn't deactivated after multiple attempts. AOL, every email service, & every business humans use to communicate with one another, has a responsibility not to participate.

Then the record caught up with him. Between 2022 and 2023, Donalds and his spouse made over 100 stock trades valued up to $1.6 million without filing the periodic transaction reports required by the STOCK Act. Campaign Legal CenterCampaign Legal Center The number, precisely, was at least 108 trades in dozens of companies, ranging in total value from $108,108 to $1,620,000. Campaign Legal Center HE DIDN'T DISCLOSE THEM IN REAL TIME. The trades only surfaced in annual filings submitted in August 2023 and August 2024 — more than a year after most of the transactions occurred. That delay isn't a technicality. The STOCK Act exists so voters can watch for conflicts of interest as they happen, not a year later. And the timing here raises real questions. Donalds sits on the House Financial Services Committee, and some of his trades were in companies that committee oversees, including Elevance Health and JPMorgan Chase. In September 2024, the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center filed a formal ethics complaint asking the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate. CLC argued that because Donalds understood the STOCK Act's requirements better than most lawmakers, there's reason to believe the omissions weren't accidental. AOL The irony is hard to miss.   @4thOfJuly365 You know I absolutely hated AOL but I liked the messenger because I could talk to stupid people I knew on that. Other people used icq and even that's out of business. And then there were some MSN people. I don't know what was up with them. I of course used some crazy open source thing that linked all this stuff together. And yeah, there isn't much that really makes this platform. All that special doesn't really do anything unique other than have people on it. I could scale my platform to millions pretty easily but what's missing from my platform is people. That's the real value
