@Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

@NW6Rd You've just reminded me my contract is up with my absolutely appalling @SkyUK broadband. It's so slow it's like AOL dial-up

@NotTheExpertYT @neon_everest You guys don’t understand how **** works at all. A great example is the internet itself. Back early on the internet was free. Remember AOL? They gave it away to get you hooked. Once you were they started charging for it. Now it’s just another utility. Same with games. They gave them away to get you hooked. Now they gotta turn that into cash by charging you for everything. It’s the silicone valley model of doing business.

@bobo103nyc I remember seeing this as a kid back in the AOL days and thinking “surely this is the worst thing I’ll ever see on the internet”

  • OwenGregorian
    Owen Gregorian (@OwenGregorian) reported

@PhillipsDe13341 I got an AT&T monthly phone bill once for over $1,000. Turns out that AOL CD for dialup internet that I was using temporarily while my DSL line was being fixed was set to auto-reconnect and had chosen a toll number. AT&T did not back down. So I paid the bill and stopped being an AT&T customer for about 20 years.

@danbulmer70 AOL....OMG I threw away those disks. Never give them to my customers because it would just cause sooooo much headache. So many ID 10 T issues.

@AnaAnsan3 Nintendo and Sony would have been stuck in the late 1990s with AOL service setups if it weren’t for PC gaming and the original Xbox (the original Steam Machine).
