@robertoblake I went to college pre internet. We had large computers with floppy disks, DOS command prompt, loud, vibrating dot matrix printers and slow screechy modems. This was before Windows and IE. Before email. Before AOL. Before NETZERO. Before Yahoo Messenger.

  • LessThanLiz Less Than Liz (@LessThanLiz) reported from Ashburn Village, Virginia

@jrhuddles @verge Every time a boomer asks if I want my online history held against me, they are likely talking about stupid things I probably said, but I think back to my Geocities FF7 fansite (lots of copyright infringement, I'm sure) and being accused of god-moding in an AOL Marvel Sim chat.

@profgalloway Remember those days fondly <gag> The screams of the modems! The shouts of users trying to get AOL to work with the modems! The wails from those poor souls standing in line to use the only internet-capable computers when the access TFN is busy!

  • TruthIsMySword America: Born 1776; Died 2020 (@TruthIsMySword) reported

@davestwittylife True. There ought to be a safe internet for kids and the elderly. The old AOL would have been perfect as all content was internally generated. Although, email is probably the greatest risk. Maybe have a white list only email service with literally only pre-approved ppl.

  • BrianCh62801958 Brian Charles (@BrianCh62801958) reported

@CatManCaleb816 @lanaislifeee I've seen the behavior exhibited since the early days of the internet on AOL Chatboards, always thought it was extremely strange that people mostly badmouthed WCW as they vociferously proclaimed their undying, never-ending loyalty to Vince Jr. (even after "he screwed Bret").
