I think that old records can remain for up to six years, but that they can be removed earlier, at the discretion of the company concerned. I would persist with @VodafoneUK. They should help. Then a complaint to Vodafone for compensation as their dodgy reporting may well have ruined your credit file

Zero customer service (if you manage to get hold of them) & they say it'll be sorted next day but it never is. Months pass by. It’s always next day. AVOID THEM. Use literally anyone except Vodafone UK.
