On their instructions I’ve changed some settings on my router which apparently may take 48 hours to fully take effect…

If you can’t see the issue with this then you (Virgin Media) are the problem. I’m inclined to contact the ombudsman as you have sold me a service which you blatantly cannot provide or install.
