It actually worked OK

They were insistent that everything was fine & there was no fault either with line or router. Having switched to vodaphone, I've had seamless service on the same line. Have concluded that plusnets routers are badly made.

Funny cos when I spoke to BT they said it was a @Plusnet issue. Closer inspection BT discovered it was a known serious incident and said they were working on it.
