I had a call from James, who advised that because I was not a Virgin customer they could not compensate me and could do nothing with my complaint. However, if I found a neighbour and got them to complain I could get compensation through them!

Once on virgin you can only use virgin. bt will happily re instal to get you back on openreach network. Unless you need business fibre...then I can provide or advise👍.

It worked first time. Copper lines being phased out in favour of VoIP.

Virgin Media News (@VirginMediaNews) reportedA man in his 40s has died after being struck by his van near Luke’s Bridge in Gortnaleck, Grange, Co Sligo. The collision happened at around 3.55pm yesterday (Saturday). Gardaí said the incident involved “a van and a pedestrian, the owner of the vehicle”. They’ve been migrating across to VOIP (Voice over ip) for a long time now. Unfortunately copper networks have become old and expensive to maintain and quality of service just deteriorates over time with fault calls, replacing cables and customer complaints etc.
