Virgin Media Ireland says it doesn’t have a “repair time frame” on a sizeable broadband outage affecting “the Dublin area”. It hopes that the undiagnosed issue will be fixed today as, “given the scale it would be very rare for this to continue for the full day”.

For more than a decade, Stan Beaton held onto something that many people would consider priceless. It wasn't jewelry, money, or a photograph. It was the voice of his wife, Ruby. Ruby passed away from cancer in 2003. Before she died, she had recorded the greeting on their home answering machine. It became the last recording of her voice, and whenever grief felt overwhelming, Stan would play it just to hear her speak again. He was so afraid of losing that message that he stayed with the same phone company for years, believing it was the safest way to protect it. Then, in 2014, everything changed. Following routine maintenance by Virgin Media, the voicemail suddenly disappeared. Stan was devastated. He believed the final piece of his wife's voice had been erased forever. When Virgin Media learned what had happened, they refused to give up. The company assembled a team of 11 engineers, who spent three days searching through backup systems and archived data. One executive compared the task to searching for a needle in a haystack. Against the odds, they found it. When the recording was played back to Stan during a BBC Radio Leeds interview, he broke down in tears. "That's her... It's just a wonderful, wonderful sound that I thought was lost forever." Virgin Media later provided him with copies of the recording so it would never be lost again. Sometimes technology isn't just about cables, servers, and code. Sometimes, it's about giving someone one more chance to hear the voice of the person they loved most.

@CCFCGrapes @virginmedia They're a bunch of See You Next Tuesdays and I'm going to be leaving them soon. The way they rack the prices up is immoral and the supposed service they provide is non-existent.

@virginmedia Whenever I use your service checker, I get the message: "Intermittent signal in your area..." etc I go through the charade of checking the equipment (knowing it's not that) to get the stock message: "Don’t worry, we’re looking into this issue..."etc. This is all the time now.
