The first incident occurred prior to the ball being in play and the player tried but failed to stop a quick throw in. If he had succeeded then it should be a card but an advantage remained so no yellow

However, any defender left one on one with Messi is getting beat 9 times out of 10. He is unplayable, only way to defend is double up on him.
