My Parents are stuck with under 8mbps sometimes nothing. Can we hope that in 2020 and beyond BT is going to bring the service up to date. As we need Internet more than ever.

They then put me on hold and the phone cut off after half an hour of waiting. Tried calling again but after another 20 min I gave up.

It could be a neighbour's heating going off, something you've got on timer, anything of that natures. It can be very tricky to work out what, but the fact that it happens at the same time every night can help to pinpoint it.
