(Re)Search & Destroy (@TruthAsylum121) reportedTHREAD 5 — VODAFONE, BT AND THE TELECOMS NETWORK The French side is only part of the story. In Britain, telecommunications companies have developed programmes providing connectivity through charities and other organisations supporting people experiencing digital exclusion. Vodafone is one of the clearest examples. Its charities.connected programme provides participating charities with SIM cards carrying data, calls and texts. Vodafone has documented the scheme being used by organisations supporting refugees and asylum seekers. Then there is BT. This is different because it isn’t a charitable donation. In March 2024, the Home Office awarded BT a £528,000 contract for data-only SIM cards for asylum seekers. The contract was procured by the Home Office team responsible for asylum support, resettlement and non-detained accommodation. And this is only part of the corporate network. Virgin Media O2 is involved in the National Databank, Community Calling and technology-lending programmes. Three is another major National Databank connectivity partner. The technology companies aren’t operating in isolation. They connect into a much wider system. And that brings us to the National Databank.
