After 4mnths of this we went @Hyperoptic and never looked back. VM uninterested in my feedback on its failings. As to the street boxes...

@virginmedia Service is available in the area, completed the engineer form 2 times in last 8 weeks. Builders confirmed that engineers were already there. Everytime I contact sales I am asked to fill out the same engineering visit form. Asked if they can talk to a engineer. They said no.

@virginmedia Of course this is the go to fix for all internet issues. Along with the router all of the devices were reset. Wifi sign drops frequently, but the bandwidth is normal as soon as it reconnects.

@virginmedia I understand the equipment situation but I have upgraded my router to mirror the performance and make sure I can use 1gb on my network. I got around 950mb when I first got it so the problem is not my end. It has also made the news about people getting poor speeds from virgin.
